2006 DREAM ONE WORLD FUNDRAISING GALA - WINDSOR, CALIFORNIA

Our first Gala Charity Fundraiser, held  at the Mary Agatha Furth Center was a huge success - just under 200 people attended!  Be sure to watch our slide show below of this wondeful event!

In support of our work, director Mark Morrisette generously offered us the Furth Center's beautiful, large ballroom at a greatly reduced rate, for which we were most appreciative.  He and staff member Danel Cattalini were incredibly supportive and kind throughout the entire process - from creating this event through its completion.

 

The evening featured:

  • silent and live auctions of merchandise from contributing authors and businesses as well as art from the artists of the art for charity site Gallery of Friends (www.galleryoffriends.com)
  • prize drawings throughout the evening from many local, national, and international businesses
  • the music of saxophonist Marshall Cooper (awarded outstanding jazz soloist at the 2004 Reno Jazz Festival)
  • two performances by the talented members of local professional dance company De/Em Dance Collective
  • four songs in four languages by two of the gifted pre-professional classical vocalists of Project Applause
  • local wine and gourmet "tastings."

There were some very special surprises, like the attendance of Mark Felt ("Deep Throat" from Watergate) and his daughter Joan, who both spoke briefly at the event.

 

It was an evening filled with warmth, fun, and caring among friends, as we all shared the common bond of helping those in need locally, nationally, and around the world.

 

Members of Bay Oaks Quilt Guild in Mississippi, who lost everything in Hurricane Katrina, and were living in trailers and learning to drywall to rebuild their homes at the time of this gala. They took the time to make this quilt to earn money to rebuild their local library - and sent it to us for our auction...and it sold!
