FELINE RESCUE OF NORTHERN CA

Feline Rescue of Northern California is an all volunteer, 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in the Cloverdale/Geyserville area of northern Sonoma County, CA, where there is a high percentage of economically disadvantaged residents.

Pet cats, often not spayed or neutered, are abandoned with alarming frequency due, in growing part, to the declining economy and skyrocketing foreclosures and evictions.

There are absolutely no institutional services available for cats in need in their area. There is no shelter, no contract with Sonoma County for cats, and no local city services for injured or ill cats.

Feline Rescue is a “shelter without walls” and “animal control with a heart,” operating with a tiny budget and no paid staff.

Feline Rescue was founded in 2008 by Mary Braem Foster, who moved to northern California from Minnesota with her partner, James Williams, an international business attorney.

Each adoptable cat or kitten is placed in a loving foster home, a much happier and healthier situation for the cat and far more cost effective than being in a shelter kennel. It helps re-build bonds of trust and affection with humans for the cats and kittens awaiting adoption.

While the majority of their activities are in Sonoma County, they are active in the entire Bay Area with a network of foster homes and adopters in Marin, San Francisco, the East Bay and the Peninsula.

When resources allow, they also rescue cats and kittens from terribly overcrowded, high kill shelters in Lake and King Counties, and have recently partnered with "BONES," a severely underfunded rescue program in the Round Valley area of northern Mendocino County, which has extremely limited resources and virtually no adoption avenues in their area.

Feline Rescue also supports efforts to care for homeless cats in area feeding sites, provided these sites conform to their guidelines re: permissions, proper feeding practices, trapping, spay/neuter, etc.

Truly feral cats are returned to the sites, and adoptable cats and kittens are placed in foster care.
